Tapping isn't only fort guitarists, if you into it it can be a helpful technique. I see it a lot for versatile then slap too. As guitar tapping has its own style, bass tapping is usually a lot more like touchstyle instruments with a lot more strings.
My technique
to get started rest your thumb on your right hand over the fretboard, not so your fingers are vertical like when you play fingerstyle but more parallel with the strings. When starting just tap simple riffs on one string using your middle or index finger to get used to the feel. Now maybe try a scale. Get comfortable with this and then try some easy tapping riff and you'll be set
